THE MAJESTIC "Rose of the Rancho," Paraomunt’s new musical romance which comes to the Majestic Theatre on Saturday, boasts the first original operetta-type score ever written for the screen. The picture has more ne,. songs than any other film ever made —eleven, to be exact, plus four Spanish dances. "Rose of the Rancho” marks the screen debut of Gladys Swarthout, beautiful Metropolitan opera star, and of the new comedy team of Willie Howard and Herb Williams, while John Boles and Charles Bickford make a welcome return to lilmdom. Miss Swarthout sings live songs, while John Boles, who plays opposite her, has three, and they sing a duet together. Willie Howard has two songs. WEATHER NOTES. The rainfall for this year to July 30 is 30 inches. The average rainfall for this period has been 21.15 inches. PERSONAL. On the eve of his departure for Wellington, Mr. B. Beban was the guest of honour at a valedictory gathering and received a presentation of a fountain pen and wallet from his Taihape friends. The presentation was made by Mr. John Quirk, who paid a high tribute to Mr. Beban's gentlemanly qualities and wished him the best of luck in Wellington. Mr. J. J. Ryan endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker. Mr. Beban feelingly responded. He left on Wednesday for the capital city.
