YOUNG WOMAN DIES
FATAL STREET ACCIDENT BENZINE LORRY AND CYCLIST. As (he result of an accident which ' occurred at the intersection of Vic- ' toria Avenue and Guyton Street, Wanganui, last evening, a single woman, Miss Constance Bridges, aged 21 years, of 32 Smithfield Road, died in the Public Hospital shortly after 6 o'clock, within live minutes of being admitted. From what could be ascertained last night, Miss Bridges was cycling up the Avenue and, when turning into Guyton Street, was struck by a benzine lorry, driven by Mr. H. S. Goldthorpe, of .19 Helmore Street. The unfortunate girl’s chest was severely crushed and she was removed to the hospital in the St. John Free Ambulance, the service being telephoned for at 5.50 p.m. She died just after admission. Miss Bridges was a popular girl and was a member of a well-known sporting family, her two brothers, Messrs. E. G. and F. W. Bridges, being closely connected with Rugby football and rowing.
