LOSS TO ROWING WORLD DEATH OF MR. LAUCHLAN. WANGANUI’S DELEGATE ON N.Z. COUNCIL. il’er 1 Absucialionj WELLINGTON, Aug. 6. The death occurred siiudeniy today of Mr. George Lauchlan, aged bJ, assistant-generai manager uau distributing engineer of tne Municipal Electricity Department. Mr. Lauchlan would have retired from the city service next year after nearly 50 years of work in the development and advancement of Wellington. He was very prominent in rowing, having been manager of the New Zealand crew that went to Australia in 1925. For many years he was a member of the New Zealand Rowing Association Council and for the past two years was its chairman. Mr. Lauchlan was chief of the Wellington Caledonian Society and a member of the executive of the association of Scottish Societies, as well as taking a prominent part in the St. Andrew’s Burns Club. He was also president of the Central Club and a vice-president of the Scottish Wanderers Football Club. The death of Mr. George Lauchlan [Will prove a severe blow to rowing throughout New Zealand, and particularly to Wanganui, for he had been the Wanganui delegate on the 'New Zealand Council for the past twenty years.—“Taniwha.”
