William Powell, a debonair society surgeon, is about to settle down into a steady practice when his divorced wife, the beautiful Jean Arthur, who has a passion for sleuthing, returns to his home. Powell is thrust into the middle of an engrossing murder mystery by the death of a friend whose body is found leaning against, his front door. Numerous exciting situations follow, including two baffling murders in which the cause of death cannot be found. A. A. Milne’s “Four Days’ Wonder” , has been bought by Universal. * * * * Joan Bennett will co-star with Fred Stone in “By the Dawn of Early Light.” A Play on Film Stars. Helen Jerome, the talented American playwright, is very popular in London. Her “Limelight” play, giving an insight into the domestic life of film stars in Hollywood and New York, is to be staged at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in October, its first production in England. The Birmingham programme also in* eludes “The Three Sisters,” by Chehov; and another new play called “Return to Sanity,” by G. Wynne Rushton and H. S. Mack. The Repertory Theatre will have 3000 subscribers by the autumn, according to Sir Harry Jackson.
