HOUSING POLICY

EARLY START PROMISED MR. SAVAGE’S STATEMENT | Per Press Association] WELLINGTON, July 23. The r.f. Hon. M. J. Savage said today that within a fortnight the Government would be making a start with building homes at Miramar and in the Hutt Valley as well as in other centres of the Dominion. Plans were practically completed and the people in need of homes could look with confidence to having their hopes realised within the near future. The housing scheme would be prosecuted energetically, but the Government would also give every assistance to the man who wanted to build his own house. The Government was anxious to secure the co-operation ol local bodies, and he saw no reason why it should not be forthcoming.
