LAWN TENNIS CLUB SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL LANCE The annual dance and persentation of trophies of the Wanganui East Lawn I’ennis Club, which is always a popular function, was held in the Victoria Hall on Wednesday evening and surpassed all previous occasions in its enjoyment and festivity. The hall was decorated with coloured streamers, and Iceland poppies. Bright and popu Jar dance numbers were played by the New Gaiety Orchestra. The arrangements were in the hands of the com-

mittee, comprising Alesdames J. Shanks (secretary), J. Johnstone (cunveirei), A. V. Buiston, L. Shepherd, A. T. Henry, I. Luxford, D. McGregor, Alessrs. Les Hunt, D. Snelling, G. Williamson, Hamilton, A. T. Henry, C. Taylor, W. Caldwell, Burston, Russell (captain), 11. Bain (treasurer), and JShanks. Alesdames Shanks and J. Johnstone were responsible for the sup per arrangements. Air. C. Boss, who capably carried out the duties of AI.C., made a brief speech at the close of the function. A letter of apo-logy was received from Air. Ormond Wilson, AI.P. for Rangitikei, who was unable to be present owing to anomer engagement. Air. J. B. Cotte rill, AI.P., was present and m a short speech spoke of the success of the club and its activities during the year. He complimented the committee and members of the club on the successful function which had terminated the season. A feature of the evening was the presentation of the trophies won during the 1935-36 season and they were presented i>y Air. K. Walpole, president of the club. Air. Les Hunt, whose duties as groundsman had been faithfully carried out, was the recipient of a silver cigarette case.
