WEDDING

BARKLA—YOUNG The Rev. C. W. Soloman officiated on June 3 at the marriage of Wilhelmina Kathleen (Mina), first daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Young, Wanganui, to Newton Sleeman, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Barkla, Whakamara, Haw era. The ceremony took place at St. Peter’s Church, Gonville, and Mrs. Sargent played the wedding music. A gown of ivory velvet with cowl neckline, rucked panels, and slight train, was worn by the bride, who entered the church with her father. A pearl coronet held in place the dainty veil. She carried a bouquet of freesias, chrysanthemums, cyclamen, and maidenhair fern. Her attendants were her sister, Miss Ida Young, and the bridegroom’s sister, Miss Peggy Barkla. Their graceful frocks were of pink cloque fashioned with cowl necklines, full sleeves and skirts, and they wore felt hats to tone. Mr. K. Honeyiield, of Patea, was best man, and the groomsman was Mr. C. H. Young (brother of the bride). About 90 guests were entertained at the Rendezvous. Mrs. Young was wearing a blue costume and hat to match. She held a posy of scarlet geraniums. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in a brown floral frock, brown coat and hat, and carried an autumn-toped posy.
