TRAMPING CLUB At the last meeting of. enthusiasts it was decided to call the proposeo club the Tongariro Tramp.ng Club. A provisional cominittee comprising Messrs Tom Shout, G. Hunt, W. F. Mead, J. Callaghan, T. A. Biyth, and E. Fetzer was set up to enrol members and to report to a meeting to be held in October. Mr Bunce was appointed bon. secretary and, in conjunction with Mr T. A. Biyth, was empowered to open an accourn at the bank and operate on same. The subscription for ac’ive members was fixed at 5s per annum. GENERAL Mr T. Pruffitt was re-ciei ted to the Borough Council. The Borough Council has adopted tne regulations under the Heatlh Act as part of the borough by-law?. The Waimarino County Council has erected a heavy boulder groyne at tne Mangateitei Bridge, and the stream has been diverted away from the seat of the trouble caused bv the erosion which occurred at the lasi flood. The work appears to be effect’ve. Banking and superelevation arc being continued on the Kang:.tana Road bv the Waimarino County Council. It is proposed to widen the side cutting fronting McDonnell’s property. There was a large a ♦•tendance o' potato growers, at the Plunket rooms on Saturday night, when Messrs Haniblyn, Claridge, and Lonsdale, of the Agriculture Department, gave ad•titsses on the subject of teed certification. In the South Island there are 731 crops under the seel certification scheme as carried out by the department, while nine years ago there were only 60. As a result of the Government deciding to take over the maiu highways extending from Te Kuiti to Bulls, a distance of 204 miles, the Borough Council will be relieved cf a large financial liability in respect of the new bridge and the Tohunga Road deviation.
