Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, June 12. 4 p.m. General Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone lies centrally over the Dominion. A shallow depression is located over the western Tasman Sea and is moving slowly eastward. Forecast.— Winds: bouth-east to north-east al first north of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint, but gradually tending more nurthcrlv’, force light but later freshening; north to north-west elsewhere arid moderate to strong. A change to west or south-west later in the southern part of the South Island. Seas (N.Z. waters): A considerable southerly swell av first between Hawke’s Bay and East Cape and rough about Eovcaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate northerly winds freshening and gradually changing to south-west shortly in the southern portion; seas slight to moderate but increasing. Weather.—A few scattered showers at. first on the East Coast between Hawke’s Bay and East Cape, otherwise line but shortly becoming unsettled and rain developing in western and southern districts of the South Island. Cold night to-night but milder to-morrow. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 2! hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 6 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, nil.
