WANGANUI EAST CROQUET CLUB

annual meeting. The annual meeting of the Wanganui East Croquet Club was held on Alouday, Alay 25. It was decided to hold during the winter, a series of fortnightly card parties in All Saints’ Hall, Aloana ' Street, the first of these to take place on June 4 at 2 p.m., and all croquet members and their friends are cordially invited. Airs. A. E. Halligan was re-elected president for the ensuing year and Mrs Congreve, secretary. The retiring secretary, Afrs. F. Stapleton, was thanked for her work during the past year. The annual report was presented as follows: We present herewith the third annual report of the Wanganui East Croquet Ciub, and have pleasure in reporting the past season as in all respects outmost successful one to date. Alembership this year rose to sixteen full and two honorary members. Examination of the balance-sheet discloses the financial position of the club to be very healthy; from this point there is, every reason why the club should, be able to make steady progress as a cen- / tre of wholesome activities and social intercourse. During the year the two lawns were sprayed, manured, topdressed and resown, and the healthy surface of turf at present shown is most gratifying. In tnis connection we have to acknowledge gratefully voluntary assistance received from Alessrs. Halligan, Burns, Harris, Goodger, Ginn and a number of other good friends of the club, also valuable advice from Air. Cox, of City Council staff. In addition, several of the shelters have been enclosed with manuka, and we hope to have more of this work done during the coming spring. Air. Denn iso u was appointed as general caretaker of the grounds, .to cut and roll the lawns, and has proved of substantial assistance to the club. Several chib members have taken a gratifying interest in .the establishment of flower-beds, and these have added considerably to the bright appearance of the enclosure. AVe have been happy, too, io note the planting of ornamental trees and. shrubs, by City Council employees, round the neighbouring parts of AVilliams Park. This year for the first time our members .took part in inter-club matches, which, proved very enjoyable and profitable. In these competitions we were fortunate in gaining second place in the aggregate. Also, four of our members were successful in bringing home tho AVeddcrspoon Cup, on challenge from, the Wanganui Club. Mrs. Bradshaw again won the club A’ankee com- I petitions, with Airs. Chapman as run-ner-up. Airs. Halligan has been our efficient president for the. year, and our thanks,] are due Io her for continued active in- 1 terest in the club. We acknowledge with grateful appreciation the donation, from Alr. and Mrs. Currin of a handsome silver cup to tho club, for championship singles annual competition. Airs. Redpa.th again proved a most [J 1 efficient tea convener, and we thank her for adding considerably to the com- 1 fort of club members. In conclusion, to all who have ho 1 kindly attended our functions, and 11 have helped the club along, on a great , many occasions, wc extend ®ur sincere thanks.
