GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY FERRIER'S BRILLIANCE SECOND ROUND RESULTS Received May 27, 9.15 p.m, LONDON, May' 27. The Australian golfer, J. Ferrier, defeated Francis, 4 and 3, in the second round of the British amateur golf championship. Ferrier outdrove his opponent and his putting was generally perfect. He had three birdies on the home run, all the result of sinking putts of about 30 feet. Ferrier’s card read: — Out: . .. 4 3 4443435 In: .... 434343 The Australian’s score was four under fours when the match enued at the lath., and, continuing the round, he finished with 3 —4 —4, making a total of 68. The Times’ golfing writer says: “Ferrier is obviously a most effective though not a pretty golfer. Nevertheless, ‘handsome is as handsome does.’ He played unbeatable golf.” IL Dykes (Scotland) defeated R. Locke (South Africa), 1 up. Dykes, who defeated Locne, is a Scottish Rugby international. Locke, who was outdriven throughout, failed to live up to his reputation. Tweddel defeated Rissik. 2 and 1. Crawley defeated J. Brown (United States), 4 and 3. Torrance defeated Fogg, 4 and 3. Smyth defeated Michael Scott, 2 and I. Wethered defeated Boomer. 4 and 3. Thompson defeated Brock,' 7 and 5. Ferrier is now favourite for the title. Jack McLean defeated the cx-holder, John de Forest, 3 and 2.
