TWO AND A-QU AKTER HOURS LATE [ Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, May 27. The Limited express arrived at 11.55, two and a-quarter hours late. The train was delayed at Taumarunui while the track was searched for parts of a waggon which had previously passed over the track. SEVERAL AMENDMENTS SHOPS AND OFFICES BILL [ Per Press Association ] WELLINGTON. May 27. A clause in the Shops anJ Offices Amendment Bill, which sought to bring the offices of solicitors, mining companies and miners’ unions under the provisions of the Act is to be deleted by the Government, according to amendments contained in a supplementary order paper which was circulated in the House to-day. However, a now clause is to be included bringing the workers in these offices under the provisions of the Bill with regard to minimum wage rates, although it is stated that there is no obligation on the employer to make any payment for overtime. These three classes oi offices also are to be brought under the provisions of the Bill dealing with tint keeping of wages and time books. The clause in the Bill limiting the hours of employment in hotels and restaurants is to come into force on September 1. along with the Sorter hour” clauses in the other industrial legislation. However an amending provision is to lie introduce! by Hon. H. T. Armstrong so that the -ate for any overtime worked in hotels and restaurants between July 1 m . when the general provision of the Bill will come into operation on September 1, must be paid for at time and a-half with a minimum of Is 6d an hour. An amendment has been introduced so that shop assistants in receipt ot wages amounting to £3OO or more annually must receive extra pay fo: over--11 The definition of the term restaurant in the original Act is to be amended to include boarding horses in which the number of boarders i» usually fiver more. The relevant clause in the Bill formerly provided that hoarding houses with ten boarders would l,e brought within the scope of the A.-t. .
