FARMERS ADDRESSED
MR. POLSON’S VIEWS REPLY TO MR. SAVAGE [ Per Press Association 1 WELLINGTON, May 27. Speaking at the Wellington Interprovincial Conference of the Farmers’ Union at Feilding this morning, Mr. W. J. Polsou, M.P., replied to Mr. Savage’s remarks at Hamilton yesterday in connection with the rationalisation of meat and wool. He said: “Mr. Savage has done me the honour of saying I am talking humbug. I say he is a better judge of humbug than me. However, 1 have his word for it that meat and wool will be included in the guaranteed prices scheme as soon as possible. Further, Mr. Langstone definitely stated that rationalisation of all primary industries will be done as soon as possible, unless Mr. Savage can produce the usual smokescreen and pouring of treacly soothing syrup on the facts.” The Government knew that the farmers were opposed to guaranteed prices. The speaker emphasised the need for the farmers to unite to prevent rationalisation of dairy produce. The conference carrie.d a remit urging the Government to take the farmers into their confidence in connection with guarateed prices, and that the producer be allowed to sell produce on the open market himself, if able to do go.
