Waitotara Valley Highway. Reference to the Waitotara \ alley Highway and reconstruction work necessary to several bridges was made at yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Waitotara County Council, by the chairman (Mr. Win, Morrison). Mr. Morrison said that, a conference had recently been held between representatives of the Waitotara and Patea County Councils, when the question of bridges in the Waitotara Valley was discussed. At the present time these bridges would only carry light loads. The Highway Board was willing to offer a subsidy of £2 for £l. and the Waitotara County would be required to spend £l4O 1 on this work. Mr. Morrison said it would be unfair to ask the ratepayers io pay this amount in a lump sum. He suggested that a loan of £l4OO. ami extending over a period of 10 years, be raised from the Main Highways Board. The council was agreeable to this course and the road classification is to remain as it is at present, but during the summer months special permits will be issued when warranted by circumstances. The cost of reconstructing two of the bridges which were on the boundaries of the Patea and Waitotara Counties are to be shared by the two local bodies concerned. The work is to be accomplished as sc-on as possible.
