KAITOKE SCHOOL

FAREWELL TO TEACHERS A very enjoyable evening was spent on Saturday, May 9, at the Kaitoke Hall by the residents and parents of the district. Items given by the senior and junior pupils reflected great credit on the teachers, who will be greatly missed in the district, particularly the head teacher, who had taken great interest both in and out of school hours and greatly helped the school committee in every possible way to function the affairs of the school. •The chairman, Mr. E. Perry, said that o:;ly by co-operation and whole- I hearted work can the school be run as • well as it has been. He also thanked j both teachers for their support, his | old committee for their assistance and j the Women’s Institute for the way ' they always helped in any function that was held to help the funds of the school. Two plays given by the Drama Circle of the Women’s Institute, entitled “The Mechanical Maid” and “Wanted a Cook,” were ably produced, bringing much laughter from the crowd gathered at the farewell party. The stage was wonderfully arranged for so small a hall and gave great credit to tne ladies connc. Lfc«. with it. Two tap dances given by Miss Audrey Thomas, of Wanganui, were well encored. The presentation was then made to the head teacher, Miss Jess : c Dickson, by the chairman of the Kaitoke School Committee, Mr. E. Perry, from the parents and V omen’s Institute, of Kaitoke, tn a beautiful gold wrist watch and a very handsome handbag to Miss J. Coombes, the assistantteachur. Both responded well by thanking the people of the district for such a pleasant and wonderful surprise in the presentation. Mr. Boulton, secretary ?f th® Wanganui Education Board, also gave a speech with some very humorous remarks, and a’ujo thanked the paren's for the way they have worked in with the teachers and hoped they will give the incoming teachers the same or more support in the future. Mrs. B. Garner also thanked Misa .Dickson for her work in connection with the district and wished her every success in her rew sphere and said that workers like M.ss Dickson would be greatly missed in the district. A delightful supper was provided by the ladies followed by dancing, which brought a very enjoyable night to a close.
