MOSSTON An interesting talk on “Home Nursing,” by Miss Young, and a demonstration o.n barbola work by Mrs J. Shanks were given at the May meeting of the Mosston Women’s Institute, presided over by Mrs Lynch. The competitions were: Best bowl of c'lirysanthemums, Mrs Crysell .1, Seeling 2; best vase of chrysanthemums, Mesdames Denma-n 1, Smith 2; best three scones, Mesdames Stillmao 1, Shaw 2, Or vs ell 3. The hostesses wore Metklames Travers, Shaw, and Stillborn.
president welcomed all present, with a special word of welcome to Mrs Henderson, of Linton Institute. Mrs J. Brine was presented with, a posy in appreciation of her being re-elected as president of the Wanganui Federation. Mrs Gifford accepted a posy on behalf of Mrs Hallam, one of the earliest members, who recently celebrated her golden wedding. Mrs J. Butcher gave an interesting report of the reccut half-yearly federation meeting. A letter was read from the Mayor (J\lr W. J. Rogers) thanking the centre for its services on Anzae Day. Mesdames Carpenter and O’Halloran reported their attendance at a meeting in connection with the ‘children’s health camp appeal. The meeting decided, with a view to encouraging greater interest, to allot a prize for the monthly competition. This will be in addition to the points prize. Mrs Edwards, of the Westmere Institute, was thanked for her help on Anzac Day. A tapestry demonstration given by Miss M. Hastings, was greatly appreciated. It was decided to resume the socials during the winter. Mrs E. Atkin gave a descriptive account of a motor trip from Wanganui to Rotorua and Mount Maunganui (Tauranga), and displayed a number of beautiful shells, hand-painted coral fashioned into broaches and as decorations for vases. The chrysanthemum ex ui bits were judged by Mr Guildford, who made the following awards: Double chrysanthemums, Mrs Adams 1 and 2, singles, Mrs Moreland 1, Mrs Disch 2; best bloom, (Mrs Adam®. Mrs Gifford Moore presented the prizes. Many excellent hospital boxes of choice flowers were exhibited, the judges, Mesdames F. Moffett and A. Garner, awarding the prizes to Mrs Sc-ddon., senior, 1, Mrs Carpenter 2. The boxes were sent to the hospital and sick members of the centre. Mrs J. Connor judged the butter sponge competition, her placir.gs being: Mrs Abercrombie 1, Mrs O’lTnlloran Mrs Cathro highly corr.neuJnd The potato competition reunited: Mrs Walker 1, Miss A. Smith 2. Votes of thanks to the judges, Miss Hastings and Mrs Atkin, were earned I by acclamation.
