Whist Drive. The English Colonist Society held their weekly drive in McGruer’s Hall last "Wednesday. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs. Hey de r, Mrs. Hewitson and Miss Lander. Gents: Mr. Bridges. Mr. Gurney and Mr. Seabrooke. Wanganui Croquet Club. Members of the Wanganui Croquet Club commenced their series of fortnightly card afternoons on Thursday, and despite a very rainy day there was a good attendance at the Wanganui Bowling Club pavilion, which is kindly lent by the committee for the gatherings, Those who were present spent an enjoyable afternoon, some playing bridge and others “300. ” Miss Gibson won the bridge and Mrs. A. Ross the “500.'’ The tea hostesses were Mesdames Allen, Beard and Amies. New Zealand Golfer. Miss Jessie Anderson is at Gleneagles. She was present as a spectator I at the Scottish Golf Assistants’ trial for the British Assistants’ Tournament at Gullane, states a London correspondent. On the following day the first two rounds in the .East of Scotland Ladies’ Championship were played at ■ Bruntsfield Links, and a rearrangement of the districts allowed the New Zealander to play. Miss Anderson won her two matches. She beat Mrs. J. M. 1 Duncan, who, as Miss Mary Wood, won lhe Scottish title ten years ago, by 7 and 6, and then she overwhelmed Miss G. Pearson by 9 and 7. , Farewell Party. A very delightful evening was spent last Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Palmer, Wilson Street, when a number of friends met to bid farewell to Mrs. H. Gregory, who is leaving for the South Island, the evening : being spent in progressive euchre, the winners of the ladies’ prize being Mrs. G. Clark and the consolation going to 1 Mrs. B. Clark. The winner of the gent’s prize was Mr. B. Clark and the consolation was won by Mr. J. Green. Mrs. Gregory was then presented with a travelling attache case. Those present included Mesdaniefi Palmer, G. Clarke, Barnard, Gregory, McKay, B. 1 (•lark. Misses Dowell. Paulin. Gregory, Messrs. Haywood, Palmer, Clark and Green. Wintci: Beauty Problems.
