A WATERSIDER FINED ( Per Press Association. ) AUCKLAND, May 7. “You know I am too old a hand to •believe your story that it was all a joke,” said Mr Hunt to Newell Harry Williams, watersider, who appeared on summons and pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a carton of toothpaste valued at £2 6s, the property of tho Union Company. A wharf clerk gave evidence that he saw accused carry the carton away from the steamer Wingatui for a distance of about 40 feet. When told to put the carton back lie did so. Accused was fined £2 and costs 12s. “Despite the leniency shown in this Court pillaging still goes on ..in Auckland.” said Senior-Detective Hall.
