WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
MEETING AT MATAROA. The monthly meeting ol the Mataroa Women’s Institute was held on April 28, Mrs. Bosher presiding. The meeting opened with the Ode to Friendship and Aspirations, after which the president made a welcoming speech to all, including visitors and four new members. “Ambition is the cog on which the wheels of progress turn,” was the motto for the day. A lengthy business agenda was dealt with. The competition, the most useful article from a 501 b. flour bag, resulted as follows: —Seniors, Mesdamcs Gill .1, Bosher 2; juniors: F. Davies 1. The trading table did brisk business. In place of the usual social half hour, an interesting talk was given by Mr. Cox (“Carnatic”). The school children were present, some of them being members of the Children’s Garden Circle. A hearty vote of thanks was carired by acclamation. A happy meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The competitions for next month are: Seniors, sugar bag article; juniors, powder puff case.
