COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

ANGLICAN ATTITUDE SYDNEY DIOCESE DECISION SYDNEY, May 6. The standing committee of the Church of England diocese of Sydney has recommended to Synod withdrawal from the Council of Churches. The reasons arc embodied in a letter from Dr. ATowll, Archbishop uf Sydney, who expresses the opinion that the Council of ChuK'hes did not and could ■not voice the mind of the Church of Entgland. Individual members of the Church of England serving on the council were not able as such to speak for the Church of England on moral and religious questions. . The Church of England believed the questions considered by the Council of Churches should be referred to denominational authorities before the council made any public announcement on it; The council decided to refer the matter to the executive committee for a report.
