I PALMERSTON N , May V Though it had been anticipated that it would be possible for the first time in fixe years to present a judge with a pair of white gloves in token of the absence of crinvnal rases on the {Supreme Court calendar, one such ease was submitted when the quarterly ses sion opened before Mr. Justice Ostler. The Judge in bis charge to the Grand Jury congratulated the district on ilt comparative freedom from crime, stat ing that there was only one case io< consideration. The Grand Jury returned no bill in the case of \ ernon Maurice Greer, charged with negligently driving a motor car on the Hiruatangi highway on March 28, therein’ causing the death of a cyclist, Ernest John Edie, of Oroua Downs. A recommendation I hat a red reflector and white rear mudguard should be made compulsory on all cycles throughout New Zealand wai made by the Grand Jury. A slatemen was made in the depositions that fh< cyclist had no light, no rear reflector and no white rear mudguard. Mr. Justice Ostler undertook to sec i hat rhe. recommendation is forwarded to the proper quarter.
