Mr A rit,a. in the D.et, stressed Japan’s desire for peace in East Asa and the Pacific in furtherance of American-Japanese amity. lie said that neither Japan nor Mauchukuo harboured aggressive designs. The Japanese Government was greatly concerned at the inroads of Communist influence into+hist Asia and was watching developments in view of the likelihood of the Rod armies marching northward. He alluded to the, need for raw materials and extended markets for finished products. He declared that if the difficulties were not removed by friendly means Japan might be •compelled to adopt the necessary measures.
