CONVERTING KICK REFEREE'S STRANGE RULING MADE THE GAME A DRAW A good deal of controversy has developed in Wanganui regarding the decision of Referee George Thrush in last 1 Saturday's match between Technical Old Boys and Afarist. AfcCormick, the Technical Old Boys’ five-eighth, was entrusted with a converting kick at goal. After the ball had been placed on the ground by the placer and all was ready for the Alarist defenders to charge, AlcConnack signalled to his placer to alter the lie of the ball. The placer obeyed, Alarist chargers hesitated and AlcCormack kicked. Before the ball reached its objective, Referee Thrush blew his whistle “washing the kick out.” Why, nobody knows. His decision as it turned out, meant a draw for Technical Old Bo t s instead of a win. It was this strange decision which was commented on in yesterday’s budget of notes by “Cross-bar” where, inadvertently, it was credited to Referee W. Molan instead of Referee Thrush, KAIERAU v. WAVERLEY THE MATCH OF THE YEAR The whole of the Wanganui Rugby Union’s district, even as far north as Taihape, is looking forward to the clash between Waverley and Kaierau. For that reason it is to be hoped that both teams take the field at full strength. Waverley has the bye this Saturday and on the following Saturday three, at least, of its crack players will be absent from the district owing to the Mounted Rifles camp at New Plymouth. and to the Alay school holidays. Campbell, Fowler and 1). Newland will all be missing. It would be a pity to rob the Rugbyloving public of the best match of the season by matching the two sides when either of them is not at full strength. It would serve a useful purpose if the ga” e was fixed now so that both clubs will be able to take such precautions as they can to ensure both fifteens being the strongest possible.
