BUTTER MARKET QUIET CHEESE PRICES STEADY I s The butter market was firm at the i end of last week, according to the Dairy Board’s report from its London < office. The retail price of New Zealand ; butter was unchanged at lid per lb. ( and that of Danish at Is Id. The Imperial Economic Committee’s < estimate of the stocks of all butters ; was 399,503 boxes, compared with 556,- ; 453 boxes a year ago. New Zealand butter in store in London at the end . of last week was 4555 tons, compared with 257 tons a year ago. Australian butter in store was 2770 tons, compared s with 6243 tons a year ago. Friday’s closing prices were quoted i as follow, those for the previous week • being shown in parentheses:— Butter. New Zealand, salted, 87s to 88s, equals approximately 10.17 d f.o.b. (87s to 89s). Unsalted, 87s to 88s (87s to 88s). Australian, salted, S7s (S7s to 8s8). 1 Unsalted, 87s up to 88s (87s to 88s). South Africa, 84s to 85s (82s to 86s). Danish, 79s f.0.b., 100 s to 101 s spot (82s and 103 s). Dutch, unsalted, 84s to 88s (85s to 88s); salted, 85s. Polish, salted, 83s to 84s (83s to 84s; unsalted, 82s to 83s (82s). Canadian agents advise.—Butter: ' New York, 27i cents; Montreal, 19£ cents a lb. Cheese. New Zealand, white, 55s to 55s 6d, equals approximately 6.06 d. f.o.b. (54s ■ to 54. s 6d ex. 555). Coloured, 54s to 555, equals approximately 5.96 d f.o.b. ' (53s 6d to 545, ex. 54s 6d). Australian, white, 52s to 53s (51s to 52s 6d); coloured, 51s to 52s 6d (50s to 525). Canadian, white, 62s to 66s (625); coloured, 64s to 66s (645). English finest farmers’ 80s to 86s (80s to 86s); factory, 49s to 54s (49s to 535). The New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London dated May 1 is as follows:—Butter market steady. New Zealand, 87s' to 88s. Danish, 100 s to 101 s. Cheese market steady. New Zealand, white, 55s 6d; coloured, 54s 6d. The bank of New South Wales has received the following report, dated May 2, from its London office—Butter: 88s. Cheese: White, 55s 3d; coloured. 54s 3d. Minimum F. 0.8. Prices. The 'Dairy Board reports that the minimum f.o.b. prices for period May 1, 1936, are unchanged at: Butter, 11d., ? less per cent, commission (89s Id c.i.f.e.). Cheese, s|d., less 1J per cent, commission (49s 7d c.i.if.e.).
