BULLS

SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting was held in Clifton Hall on May J, called by the Bulls School Committee, to discuss the form of farewell function to Air. and Airs. CfiurebiU, who are leaving the district. Representatives of the Bulls Piunket Society, and members of the old committee were present. It was resoivcd to hold a euenre and dance in the Town Hall to-morrow (Thursday), and it is anticipated that there will be a large attendance. Regret was expressed by those present at losing Air. and Alis. Churchill, whose valuable services in jnany spheres will be greatly missed. GENERAL HEWS. Bulls and Sanson Basketball Clubs play a competition game on the Domain this afternoon. Storm damage caused on Saturday last is now being assessed, and iu many parts oi' the country district haystacks were levelled, trees felled, and sheds unroofed. Stock had a bad time, and one former had great difficulty iu rescuing a valuable draught horse which, sheltering under a hedge, slipped into a drain, and had tu be rug out. Both in town and outside, many chimneyp •buffered, and •water found its wav through faulty roofs. Passing motor-cars have accounted for an exceptionally large number of dogs here lately, and while dogs which are allowed to run loose are a menace to traffic, there is little doubt that many motorists travel much Loo fast on our bitumen roads. Local owners of Alsatians arc somewhat perturbed at the proposal to tax this b.ecd •'! dogs at the rate of £5 per head, which will make them expensive “pets.” • Airs. G. P. Holland, of Wanganui, who has been ill since coming to Bulls* is now reported to be progressing fav ourabiy. Air. Al. Kidd, though still far from well, is also stated to be a little better.
