.Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, April 8, 4 p.m. General Situation. —An intense anti-cyclone is still situated ovei and east of New Zealand, while a deep depression covers south-east Australia and the western Tasman. Forecast. —Winds: Light to moderate north-easterly to northerly, gradually freshening and later becoming strong in many places. Sens (N.Z. waters): Slight to moderate but a considerable swell setting in on the west coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate but increasing northerly winds; seas rising. Weather: Mainly fair to fine with mild to warm temperatures. Fog on parts of the Canterbury and Otago coasts. Later dull and misty conditions developing in western districts and unsettled weather with rain probable towards the week-end. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 21 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 5 hours 50 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 74deg. Fahr.; ininimum, 54deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.4 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.13 a.m. Phases of the -Moon for Aprils—Full moon, April 7; last quarter. April 15; new' moon, April 21; first quarter, April 28.
