TIMARU INDIGNANT

N.S.W. RUGBY TEAM’S TOUR SOUTH CANTERBURY OMITTED TIMARU, April 6. Considerable indignation was expressed by the South Canterbury Rugby Union to-night when it was pointed out that the itinerary of the New South Wales team to tour the Dominion this season did not provide for a game at Timaru, but the only game allotted a South Island minor union was against North Otago. It was suggested that a strong protest be sent the New Zealand Rugby Union drawing attention to the fact that the standard of Rugby in South Canterbury was exceptionally high last season and the South Canterbury Union was under a financial obligation to the Dominion body. The chairman, Mr. A. G. Knowles, emphasised that North Otago was not under an obligation to the New Zealand Union and added: “Billy Wallace is on the committee and represents North Otago.” It was decided to enter a protest against the preference shown the North Otago Union.
