Meteorological Office. Wellington, Tuesday, April 7, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An intense anticyclone is still centred east of New Zealand. A very slight depression has crossed the South Island to-day while a deep one is situated over south-east Australia. Forecast.— Winds: Moderate to strong northerly changing to southerly to-morrow in the South. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough about Cook Strait and rising on the west coast of the South Island and in Foveaux street; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Afoderate northerly winds and moderate seas but later wind and sea increasin'' with a change to southerly in the southern portion. Weather: Some scattered light rains at first mainly in western districts, otherwise fair and mild but dull misty conditions gradually enveloping the countrv and fairly widespread rains probable within the next da" or two.
