MAJESTIC THEATRE “LIVING ON VELVET” More thrills and unique situations are said to have been packed into the First National picture, “Living on Velvet,” which opens at the Alajestic Theatre to-morrow, than any picture that has been shown here for some time. There are unusual air manoeuvres with some of the maddest stunting imaginable by an airplane pilot, who plays the role of an airman supposed to be somewhat “cracked” after a terrific accident in which he is the only one who escapes alive. His air escapades finally get him grounded, after which his speed mania brings him to grief in a crazed auto ride. There is a unique romance in the story in which two friends love the same girl, but each does his best to give her to the other to make the woman happy. PIRATES’ FOOTBALL CLUB The anual meeting of the Pirates’ Football Club, winners of the senior competition last year and holders of the President’s Rose Bowl, was held in the Fire Brigade Hall on Alonday evening. The president (Air. C. Quirk) occupied the cliair, and also present were Alessrs. J. Bridson, R. Finn, H. D. Bond, R. Jones, H. Burns, A. Alillar, C. Derbidge, I. Charles, Af. Keating, K. Sisson, Al. Goer, J. Keats, J. Johnson, F. Darvill, N. Woodhead, D. George, and the secretary (Mr. W. Munro). The meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of his late Alajesty King George V. and the late Alessrs. Al. Powell, D. J. McLennan and J. Transom. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Air. J. Bridson (re-elected); president, Air. C. The following new members were elected: E. Thurston, T. Stevens, T. Shepherd, V. North, AV. Aleredith, D. Findlay. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £ll 15s 3d in the general account and it was decided on the motion of Afr. Alunro to transfer £9 9s from this account to the injured players’ fund. In reviewing the 1935 season, the president, Mr. C. Quirk, offered his heartiest congratulations to the senior

team on winning the Senior Cup. The team had worked hard throughout the season and deserved its success. The club spirit was very much to the fore and the team had covered itself with glory by beating Alangaweka 5—3 and Kaierau (Wanganui) 16—8 in matches for the President’s Rose Bowl. The speaker referred to the services rendered by M- Keating, W. Munro, A. Kilkolly, W. Sinclair and J. Ormond-“old-timers” who had stepped into the breach when Pirates were short and had contributed largely to the team’s ultimate success in the senior competition. The junior team was unable to field its strongest players in its most important engagements and had consequently met with little success, while the third grade players had been called on by the Taihape District High School. The speaker went on to appeal to all members to pay their subscription and thus help the club to carry on. Some players had been very lax in this respect last season. The chib could not carry on without funds. Raetihi had played PiratM at Taihape early in the season and it was up to Pirates to return the rimt before the commencement of tne timing season. In conclusion, Afr. Quirk thanked the committee and the secretary (Air. W. Alunro) for their excellent work on behalf of the club and added t)»at Afr. Alunro was one secretary in a thousand and had worked wonders. (Loud applause). The speaker wished the club every success and hoped that - the spirit of harmony that was so much in evidence last season would continue and that the club would be like one big happy family-
