The Waverlcy Football Club ’s annual report states; —The season under review lias been a most successful one, and public interest iu the game wan well sustained. This was due largely to our club being represented in the Alctropoiitan Union senior competition. The club fielded two senior teams, one in Wairoa and one in the Alctropoiitan Union and in addition to this sex oral friendly games were arranged for our junior players with Wanganui fourth and fifth grade teams, the Metropolitan Union paying us the compliment of sending to Waverlcy a fifth grade representative team on one occasion. The senior Wanganui team at the end of the season finished second on the champions&ip ladder. This must be considered a very good performance in this, our second year in this class of football, and this augurs well for our prospects for the ensuing year. During the season the following players gained representative honours tor the Wanganui and Alctropoiitan Unions: — J. Peterson, A. B. Campbell, Al. Dickie, J. AlcClcnagbaa, J. Tnoma-s, K. Hair, and several other players just missed selection, through injuries. One of our players, A. B. Campbell, played in two All Black trial matches and narrowly missed All Black honours. Our Wairoa senior team must be given great credit for the way they stuck together, and fulfilled all their engagements, as their ranks were depleted from time to time owing to injuries and sickness, and our Wanganui team drawing on some of their players. Davis, Daly, lowler, Loader, and Alitchell, gained representative honours for Wairoa. Air. 1). Walker must be given great credit for his consistency with th<» junior players and credit is due to these boys for the way they turned up to practice. The thanks of We club are due to Messrs. L. Stewart and S Cameron, the coaches of the teams. This applies especially to Air. L. Stewart who carried on alone after the departure of Air. Camcron early in the season; he, Air. Stewart, devoted a considerable amount of time to the teams and conscientiously attended every practice night, wet or fine. The thanks of the club are due to our club captain, Air. J. E. AlcDonald, who carried out his duties very efficiently and conscientiously; especially doeis this apply to the way he looked after the gear. A pleasing feature was that 37 players’ subscriptions were paid, most of which were paid before the first playing Saturday. The conduct of every player, on and off the field, was exemplary. The social part of the club was carried on by an energetic committee, whose efforts were untiring, and to them must be given a lot of credit, and who contributed in no small way to the financial success of the club. The annual ball proved to be a huge success in every way. Again Airs. C. H. Christensen and her willing band of helpers carried out the supper arrangements admirably. The club are very fortunate in having such a general in Mrs. Christensen to take charge. To Mr. and Mils. Dallison, Mr. and Mrs. Dalrymple and all helpers, thanks are due for the tasteful scheme of decorations for the ball. The club is very grateful to Messrs. J. Hamilton, F. Sinclair, and A. Old for the ex ° e *' lent manner in which they controlled the gates during the season. Special thanks must be given .to those people who donated the following prizes:—Mr. J. M. McKenzie, a cup for the most improved senior player, won by M. Dickie; Mr. G. Spooner (Wanganui) a cup for the most improved junior player, won by L. Walker; Mr. J. Mills donated a set of football jerseys to the Metropolitan team and Mr. J. M. McKenzie one set of football socks and a. Gilbert football to the club. The club IS deeply indebted to those gentlemen foi their magnificent gifts. Several substantial cash donations were given to the club during the year, and to those rreople the thanks of the club are due. Special thanks must be given to all the car owners, who sacrificed tnemselves every travelling Saturday to convey players to their respective destinations, sometimes at a great dca of inconvenience .to themselves. Recently a great loss to our club and to the game was sustained by tnc death of Mr. H. Heginbotham. He was an ardent football enthusiast, and never missed seeing the team P} & y> car usually being one of the first ottered for transport. We extend our sincere sympathy to bis relatives. The club is grateful to our hon. auditor, Mr. J. C. Gray, for hrs valuable advice when dealing with the books of the club. Thanks must be extended to the committee and officials of the club for their services rendered during the season, also the general public who took such an interest in the game, and should the same support be forthcoming this year the future of the club seems assured.
