H. {Salmon, SAL, on a charge of being idle ami disorderly. Her three children, which ranged in age from three months to three and four years, had been previously committed to the care of the State. Senior-Sergeant L. R. Capp, who appeared for the police, said that accused had been leading a loose and immoral life. She had been found living in a state of filth. Two children were on the street insufficiently clad. The house was open and the inside was filthy. There was no bedding for the children to sleep on, just a lot of old rags. Imposing senten.ee,. the magistrate said that accused had been found in a state of indescribable squalor and he had to protect the interests of the public in spite of the fact that he could not but help feeling sympathetic in. this case. Accused, as she was al present, was a menace to the public, and it would be a kindness to order her a short term of imprisonment to enable her to be medically treated. By that means she would have an opportunity of becoming cured of a certain disease.
