WOOL, SKINS AND HIDES
PALMERSTON NORTH SALE Wool and sheepskins met a a very keen keen demand at the monthly Palmerston North sale held last Thursday by Abraham and Williams, Ltd. Wool values showed a rise of id to Id per lb. for all sorts under keen competition. Dry sheepskins were keenly sought after, particularly the finer sorts, which can be quoted a full Id dearer. Other descriptions were Jd to Id dearer. Salted skins were 3d. to 6d dearer. Ox hides met with keen competition, all descriptions sharing in the rise of fd to Id lb. Cow hides, on the other hand, were firm to to a little easier. Calfskins showed a rise of to jd per lb. The tallow market was easier by 2s to 3s per cwt. The folowing is the range of values:— Wool: Southdown, lid to 13$d; fine hoggets, 9|d to lid; A crossbreds, 7|d to B|d; B crossbreds, 6|d to 7Jd; crutchings, 5d to 6d; pieces, 4d to s|d; dead, 6d to B}d. Sheepskins: I’ine Ist lid to 12}, fiine hoggets, lid to 12d; hoggets, B}d to 9J; three-quarter full wools, 8d to B|d; quarter half-wools, 8d to Bsd; pelts, 6|d to 7Jd; crossbreds, damaged, 7}d to Bfd; lambs, lOd to 114 d; salted pelts, 3s Id to 3s 6d; salted short quarterwools, 4s 3d to 4s 6d. Hides: Ox, heavy, Bfd to 9 l-8d; ox, medium, B}d to 9d; ox, light, to 7d; cow. heavy, 5 7-8 d to 6 7-Sd; cow, medium. 5 7-8 d to 6 3-8, cow, light, 6d to 6 3-8 d; vearlings, 7d to 8 7-8 d; calf, light Ist, 13d''to 13 5-8 d; c-alf. light, 2nd., lOd to 12|d, calf, light-cut, B}d to lOd. Tallow: In drums, Ist, 21s to 235; in tins, Ist, 16s to 16s 9d; in tins, 2nd, 12| to 14s.
