NOTES AND COMMENTS Tunneller’s Good Form. Tunneller has been a profitable investment for his present owner, Air. D. AfcFarlane, of Christchurch, since he was purchased from Sir Charles Clifford exactly 12 months ago. Now that the period of soft tracks has set in he should earn further distinction. He was not nominated for the first day’s programme at Trentham, but is in the list for the two concluding days, and is likely to make the trip. His engagements are the Autumn Handicap, 1 mile and 3 furlongs, and the President’s Handicaj, If miles. Duplication of Names. Duplication of names of horses registered in Australia and New Zealand has created difficulty, from time to time, for the sporting public. Now it is announced that the name Rebel Chief has been registered by J. T. Cush for his two-year-old by Chief Ruler from Lady Pym, a half-sister to Purse. Should the New Zealand Rebel Chief, by Robespierre from Verintia, race in Australia in the future, he will have to carry an additional distinguishing mark. Pakanui Comes Solid. As a two-year-old, Pakanui showed a fair amount of promise, but it is only within the last month that be has begun to fulfil it this season. He had a good deal of trouble earlier in the season. First, it was a leg and later a respiratory ailment, but a win at the Poverty Bay meeting was followed by a double at Napier Park last week. Although this speedy son of Hunting Song makes a noise, he has been able to extend his range of success to a mile and if he can be kept in his present form he will number many friends at meetings immediately ahead. Broken Leg. The former Riccarton horseman, W. Pascoe, rider of Solomon in the Ruakaka Hurdle race at Te Aroha, suffered a broken leg when he was thrown from his horse, which fell in attempting to negotiate a hurdle. The injured jockey was conveyed to hospital, where his condition was regarded as satisfactory. RACING FIXTURES Alarch 13, 14—Cromwell J.C. March 14, 17—Ohinemuri J.C. March 14, 16, 17—Wellington R.C.
