BOROUGH COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING. At the meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council oil Tuesday night there were present: Dr. IV. J. Feltham (Mayor), Crs. A. Webb, Goodman W. Harris, T. Shout, F. Lee, J. H. Stanley and C. Lynch. An apology was received from Cr. Ciochetto, and three mouths’ leave of absence was granted Cr. Sandford Sunday Pictures. At the previous meeting, Air. L A. Eastman waited on the council and asked that the permit to show pictures on Sunday night be continued, and the matter was held over for a month. Cr. Goodman gave a report on the financial position of the movement. He gave particulars of the takings and the expenses. The net result was £34 14s, and the picture committee had paid to the Health Campaign Fund £2B 12s aJid had £lO 2s in hand. He gave particulars ot the attendances per Sunday. Cr. Goodman was thanked for the report, which was duly received, and the committee thanked for its services. On the motion of Cr. Shout the oc---mit was granted for 12 months. A discussion ensued as to the conditions and it wasj decided that the present restrictions should remain in force and all proceeds must bo paid to the town clerk ou Mondays. The Mayor, Deputy-Mayor and the'town clerk, with’ the three members of the picture committee, was authorised to allocate the expenditure of this money, which will be devoted to charity. In reply to a question, Cr. Goodman said there were three members of the picture committee, but it was intended to add more. Reserves. Air. I. W. Haddock wrote offering to rem part reserve in Queen Street, but on the recommendation of the Reserves Committee the application was not entertained. The council endorsed the action of the Reserves Committee in granting the schools sports the use of the Domain, the camp site, and allowing a collection to be taken up in the reserve. Sitting as a Domain Board, it was agreed that the motor camp fees be 2s 6d per vehicle per day, 7s 6d per week, or Is for a casual visit, a commission of 4d to be paid the collector for the day or casual, and Is for the week fee. The Wanganui Automobile Association forwarded a donation of £25 for the camp building, through its agent. It was decided to insure the buildings and contents to their full value. It was agreed that the Finance Department be reimbursed to the extent of 33 1-3 per '*ent. of the gross takings at the camp site for the supply of electricity. The town clerk was instructed to write and ask for a contribution from the Waimarino County Council towards '•he upkeep, etc. ,of the Raetihi ceme--1 tery. Public Conveniences. Mr. A. Holden wrote about the state of the conveniences near his premises, upon which the health officer also reported. The Works Committee was asked to bring up a report on the matter and the erection of a public convenience m the town. The Alayor pointed out that there was one public convenience on the. borough properly, but councillors con-' tended it was not central and one was required at the other end of the town. General. A special rate for certain hours was fixed for the supply of power to the Wanganui Education Board to pump water for the schools at Horopito and Raetihi. Cr. Shout thought the council should consider the Government inspection of stock for slaughter, and the Health Committee was asked to bring down a report. Cr. Lynch, while having no objection to considering the matter, said he was the opinion that the stock inspector paid regular visits of inspection to slaughter houses. ’The health inspector reported that he had made 26 inspections of premises during the month. The Railway Department asked for a renewal of the contract for supply of water at the same price, but it was considered that the by-laws compelled the council to charge at least Is per 1000 gallons instead of 3d. Air. R. H. Bennett was allowed to use water for his cattle from neighbours’ taps at a charge of 10s per annum. The Ohakune Borough Council notified that Dr. Jordan had been appointed its representative on the Airport Committee. It was agreed that the borough offices be closed from Friday, April 10 (Good Friday) to Tuesday, April 14 (inclusive) and that the next meeting of the council be held on April 21, owing to the Easter holidays. Accounts amounting to £516 Is II w f e passed for payment. RAETIHI ELECTRICITY. REVIEW BY ENGINEER. STORM DAAIAGE. At the meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council on Tuesday the electrical engineer Mr. W. Journeoux. submitted ft report on the operation and condition of the electrical system. During the last two months the system has been subject to several trials which have revealed weaknesses as the result of the severe weather conditions, which were prevailing during that time. During the period 78 service calls and repairs were dealt with and finalised: — 40 inspections of installations carried out; 139,110 kilowatt hours generated; 6’,300 kilovoltampre hours sold to Ohakune; 1.659.536 gallons of water pumped for town water supply and also considerable line repair and replacement work. Considerable repair work was effected to the water supply pumps, but more is yet required before the pumps are in first class order. The design and manufacture of camp site cook-house equipment has been completed, considerable time and research ladies were Aiesdames T. Wright, ; Earle, Smith and Richardson and Misses Latham and Haggitt. The Waverley players were Alisses A. Graham, AL Dickie, Alason, Alexander, P. 1 Graham. N. Barron- and E. Shearman. I
