THF. LATE MR. THOMAS SIAIPSON The funeral of the late Air. Thomas Simpson on Friday afternoon was attended by a large number of Rangitikei residents, testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held in the district. The Rev. Watt conducted an impressive ceremonv at the graveside in the Bonny Glen Cemetery. The beautiful floraTtributes of autumn-tinted that adorned the casket were very imposing. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Hamish, Holt, Pat and Roger Simpson, Trevor Collins and W. McDonald, nephews of the late Air. Simpson. to those with rates still unpaid and that an additional charge of 10 per cent be added to all rates unpaid by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Alarch 31. The fire-fighting equipment, at present the property of the Town Board, is to be handed over to the lire Brigade, which, would have full charge of same. It was decided to leave the Anzac Day arrangements in the hands of Mr. Bromiley. The clerk was instructed to extend to Miss Adlajn the board’s sympathy in the loss of her father. PERSONAL Afiss Ann Mitcalfe, who has been on a cycling and sketching tour in ihe South Island, returned on Wednesday to stay with her mother until she leaves in April for Sydney, en route to England, where she will continue her art studies. Mrs. Kerse, who for some weeks has been visiting her mother, Airs. Joyce, of Wellington, and has been the guest of Airs. K. Bremer (Waverley), returned to her home in Upper Waitotara on Friday. Air. and Airs. Berridge were visitors to Waverley last week and were the guests of Dr. and Airs. Graves. LAWN TENNIS Although the wind was rather unpleasant when six Wanganui ladies visited Waverley to play friendly games on Thursday, a -very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The visiting
