Meteorological Office, Wellington. Friday. Feb. 2.1, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Pressure is still relatively low over and cast of the North Island, while a slight anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman Sea on to southern New Zealand. Forecast. —Winds: Moderate and variable over the northern halt of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong southerly to southeasterly prevailing. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough south of Castlepoint and in the Cook Strait area, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-east to southerly winds; seas moderate. Weather: Fair to fine in the western and far southern districts of the South Island, elsewhere still cloudy to overcast with mist or fog in places. Further rain probable with some scattered heavy falls in the central parts of the North Island. Conditions improving temporarily, however, to-morrow in most districts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John s Hill, report, for 2-1 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, .24 inches.' Shade’ temperatures: Maximum, 76deg.
