Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, Jan. 15, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Yesterday’s depression is now passing away eastward, but a fresh—though a shallow one—is advancing across the south Tasman. Forecast. —Winds: Light to fresh but decreasing southerlies to south-easterlies prevailing at first, changing to northerlies soon in the far south and northerlies extending to beyond Cook Strait to-morrow. Seas (New Zealand waters i: Rather rough at first about East Cape, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate southerly winds, gradually tending northerly; seas slight to moderate. Weather: Fair to fine generally at first, but becoming unsettled later in Westland and the far South, with rain developing. Temperatures warmer. Sunset to-day: 7.51 p.m. Sunrise to-morrow: 5.11 a.m. Phases of the Moon.—First quarter, January 2; full moon, January 9; last quarter, January 17; new moon, January 24; first quarter, Jan ary 31.
