REVOLVING STAGE

NOVELTY EOR WANGANUI. ERECTION AT OPERA HOUSE. The revolving stage which is being utilised for the presentation of “The While Horse Inn’’ this week is a novelty as far as New Zealand is concerned, but in Europe this form of stage is often used in productions where frequent and rapid changes o£ s cencry are required. The stage to be used for this week s production is now being erected, on the of the Opera House and is one ol two used by the company. Owing to the time needed for the assembly of a revolving stage, two are required an’ one is always a stage ahead of the company. The stage is 32 feet in diameter and its floor is composed of l(i segments each of which is provided with three sets of rollers on which the assembled outfit revolves. The work of revolving is carried out by a handoperated winch. The stage can carry live scenes and consequently the matter of changing from one scene to another requires but a few minutes. No curtain is used and the audience will be faced with a set. scene in front of the first tableau curtain. The revolving stage will require a portion of the orchestral well and it will probably he necessary for the first two rows of the orchestral stalls to bo removed in order to allow adequate room.
