I SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. Sydney Warburton, of England, is staying at Foster’s Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. F. K. Turnbull. Bell Street, have returned from Auckland. Mrs. AV. Paterson, Wanganui, is visiting Mrs. Cecil Bailey, Feilding. Mrs. J. H. Bevan, Sydney, is staying at Foster’s Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. W. Quinn were Wellington visitors to Wanganui during the week-end. Mrs. R. Rogers, of Turakina, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss Leicester, who spent the holidays in Wanganui as the guest of Mrs. R. Neumann, ‘ ‘ Netherloigh,” has returned to Hawera. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Jenkins have returned to their home on St. John’s Hill after a holiday spent at Kawhai. Miss Isa Wright, of Hamilton, is staying with Mrs. Collier, St. John’s Hill. Misses J. Falconer and M. Mcßrearty I have returned to Wanganui from Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. f. Cunningham returned to Wanganui during the week-end after spending several weeks in Auckland and Tokaanu. Mrs. W. Dunkley and family, who have been on a camping holiday upriver, have returned to Wanganui. Mr. and Airs. A. G. Waghorne, of Cains Avenue, Gonville, and Mrs. W. Meikle, Wanganui East, have left on a ' motor tour of the North Island. Miss Nell Collerton, Taihape, has re- I turned from a golfing tournament at j New Plymouth in which she was sue- ' ' cessful. The wedding took place at Sf. George’s Church. Hamilton, on Wednesday afternoon of Allan Barclay Barns-Graham, eldest son of Air and •Mrs J. Barns-Graham, of Gisborne, and Eleanor Francis, elder daughter of Mr and Airs O. M. Hope, of Queen’s Avenue. Hamilton. Mr and Airs N. IT. S. Law, of Papa■toetoe. Auckland, and formerly of Wanganui, with Miss Al. Law and Air H. Law. who have been on a three weeks’ motoring tour of the South Island, spent a few days in Wanganui as the gues-ts of Air T. J. A/lams and Miss Adams. Selwvn Street. They leave to-dav for New Plymouth.

Schofield and their daughter Patricia, of “Brackenfields ’’ Masterton, are at present visiting Mr and Mrs Bert Collerton. Taihape. At 78 years of age, Ishbel Ladv Aberdeen has started on a visit to Jmlm. She Ims been invited bv the Maharanee of Baroda to attend an important women’s conference in Calcutta. The conference, which is being arranged by the Council of Women in India and the International Council of Women, is to deal with social questions. It is to be opened bv the Maharanee on January 30. This falls
within the week of the Jubilee of the Maharajah, when Baroda will be the scene of great rejoicing. As the Maharanee will be unable to be present on every occasion the Marchione ■ of Aberdeen is to take her place. In spite of her age. Lady Aberdeen is indefatigrible in her interest in all matters whit'li affect the welfare ami progress of women. ENGAGEMENT Tlic engagement is announced of Alilly, eldest, daughter of Mrs and Hr L. Iledditch, Stratford, to Paul, only son of Mrs M. Crawford and the late 31 r \\. G. Crawford, Wellington.
