Swept out io see from the mouth of rhe Manawatu River at Foxton yesterday afternoon when their canoe capsized, three young men had a remarkable escape from djowning when the -pt of the tide brought them ashore again after thev had been clinging to I heir craft for 3| hours. They were: A. Follett, aged 28. of Feilding: E. Hughes, aged 22, and P. Hughes, his brother, aged 20, of Palmerstun North. Waves frequently swept over the men and sharks were seen in the immediate vicinity. They "ere nut strong swimmers, and their outrigger canoe upset at 2 p.m. near the mouth of the liver and when righted was practically submerged. Thev climbed on to the outrigger supports, but gave up hope. An aeroplane which passed overhead o idem I r did not notice their plight.
