PILLON RIDER’S DEATH
FATAL FALL ON TO ROAD. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 15. Thrown to the roadway from the p . lion seat of a motor-cycle when it xskidded on the wet surface of Eliot Street, New Plymouth, at 11 o’clock last night, Iris Marjorie Morris, aged 21 years, received internal injuries so ’evere that she died almost immediately. The cycle, which "a? ridden by Mi. Bernard Carr, Opunakc. bad just crossed the Devon Street intersection when the accident occurred. The rider endeavoured to change intu top gear, but the tyres failed to grip on rue road surface and the machine skidded violently. Miss Morris was thrown with considerable force to the roadway and Mr. Carr avoided a spill narrowly. Noticing that hi- companion had lost her seat. Mr. Carr turned in time to see Miss Morris rise from the road "here she had fallen. She spoke to him and for a moment or two seemed normal, bat she suddenly staggered and tell, and Mr. Carr ran to a telephone booth to summon a taxi. The injured woman was immediately taken to IDr. T. H. Thorp’s surgery but was dead on arrix al. Miss Morris lived with hei parents at Mangorei Road, New Plymouth. Mr. Carr is a railway employee stationed at (Jpunake. Miss Morris was a practised pillion rider, frequently accompanying Mr. Carr on motor-cycle expeditions.
