THE FAR EAST
WAR CLOUDS LOOM it. , .—. JAPAN DISTURBS RUSSIA FRONTIER INCIDENTS.
[By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright J JuONDON, Dee. 30. The ‘Sun-Herald says that the situation in the Far East is seriously disturbing the .European capitals. The Japanese, threatening to invade Mongolia from Mam-hukuu, recently initiated a series of frontier incidents, the real significance of which is at present obscure, but one such incident is expected to start a Russo-Japanestj war. which both the East and West regard as eventually inescapable. Neither Russia nor Japan is at present. ready for a major conflict. The •Japanese have not consolidated their position in Manchukuo, where the banditry, if anything, has become, worse. Furthermore, the annexation of large slices of North China, is a much easier proposit ion. The Russians at ]>resent do not de,'dre a foreign adventure in view of their pre-oeciipation with the second five-year plan and have not. completed their military development. Neverless the danger of a Russo-Japanese war is very real.
