ST. GEORGE’S SUNDAY SCHOOL. PRIZE LIST Rev. Walton presented the following prizes to the Sunday School children after the morning service at St. George’s Church last Sunday:— Senior boys’ class: Edward Homer 1, Colin Roots 2, Peter Bly de 3; and Robert Minton, Brian Nelson, Clarence Featonby, Robert Fitzwater, Gavin Carey, Dudley Carey, Dexter Mays, Harold Bond, Ray Honeyfield, Allan Bates, Kay Hill, Ron Hill, and Clifford Mackin. Senior girls’ class: Norma Ashby and Gwen Bond 1, Betty Ashby 2, Cynthia Simmons and Athalie Roots (equal; 3j and Norma Prout, Thelma Prout, Cynthia Fitzwater, Lorna Martin and Nancy Brooks. Intermediate boys’ class: Geoffrey Doneyfield 1, Basil Roots 2, Arthur Batete 3; and Glen Mays, Jack Baker, Rex Ansley, and Gilbert Death. Intermeuiate girls’ class: Gloria Bond and Gwenda Ashby (equal) 1, Shirley Mackeu 2, Peggy Minton 3; and Gladys Ansley, Jean Hills, Lois Sharp, Dorothy Haddow, and Ngaire Baker. Infants: Mary Ashby, Ann Feilds, Mary McPike, Phyllis Kook, Esme Death, Eunice Sharp, Ivan Ansley, Darcy Featonby, Bruce Joynt, and John Osborne, CHRISTMAS IN PATEA The seasonal gaiety was in evidence in I’atca on Christmas Eve and among ehoppers there was a decidedly optimistic tone. Many little eager faces crowded round Mickey Mouse and Father Christmas to receive packets of sweets. Flowers, streamers, paper bells, and balloons were the decorations at the local hospital for Christmas. Mr. I. W. Glenny distributed presents to the children. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. F. Ramsbottom, gave each patient and the staff presents, which Mere greatly appreciated.

RED AND WHITE ROSES Red roses for Lancashire and white for Yorkshire Mere the emblems used in the decoration of the Foresters’ Hall on Boxing night for the old-time party, held by the Yorkshire and Lancashire people, who have settled in this district. The Yorkshire mc4to, “Hear all, see all, say noM’t; 8 all, eup all, and pay nowt, do it for thyself.” And the Lancashire motto, “God bless me and my wife, our Bill and his wife, us 4 and no more, ah men,” displayed on the walls, caused much fun. Lancashire and Yorkshire railway station names were also used in the decorations. A hearty welcome to all was extended by Mr. J. Haworth, master of ceremonies, the Mayor replying. Music, dancing, and games for the children and a large Christmas tree making a most joyful evening. Mrs. McLuskie presided at the piano, assisted by an orchestra of Otakeho and Patea players. PERSONALS Miss Betty Taylor, Wellington, is staying with Miss Nancy Davidson. Miss Joan Hills, Hamilton, is holidaying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Hills. Miss Margaret Gilligan accompanied by Miss Clare Gilligan, has returned to Auckland. Rev. W. H. Walton, Mrs. Walton, and Brian are visiting Auckland. Miss Collie i* spending the holidays at her home in Blenheim. Mr. and Mrs. G. Masters, Stratford, spent Christmas in Patea. Mr. and Mrs. D. Fraser, Hawera, were visitors to Patea during the holidays. Miss Wylie, Auckland, is visiting her grandfather, Mr. R. Hunger, sen. Mr. N. Glenny, Ohura, has been on a visit to Patea. Mr. L. Edwards has returned to Wellington. Mr. E. Hammond spent Christ nisi with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Harris. Mr. C. Harris is visiting Patea. Mies G. Tompkins has returned front New Plymouth were she spent Christmas with her parent!. Mrs. C. Crompton, South Westland, was a visitor to Patea last week-end. Mrs. Luxton and Miss D. Luxtoii leave in the New Year for a holiday in Gisborne with Mrt. R. Cudden. Mr. V. Nansett, New Plymouth, spent Christmas with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. Gunn are visitors to Auckland. Mrs. Richardson, of Plimmerton, is visiting her fon for a few days. Mrs. Baker leaves on Tuesday on holiday. . . .
