LOW SCORING NOTICEABLE BETTER BOWLING AVERAGES. MEDIOCRE HONOURS LIST. The fourth series of matches in the Wanganui Cricket Association’s first grade competition were commenced on Saturday. 'Hie batsmen were troubled by a poor light. Wanganui and Technical College and United and Technical College Old Boys played at Cook’s Gardens. Wanganui had first use of the wicket against Technical College and hit 183 runs. Orr and Dallard were the opening batsmen but the former was given out l.b.w, off McElwain’s fourth ball before the score had been opened. Stewart joined Dallard and these two batsmen brought the tally up to 21, Stewart being dismissed at 18. Dallard was bowled by Ellison when he had reached 254 nut Warnes struck batting form and was the top scorer with 54. Warnes hit up a catch when he had 21 runs on the telegraph but it was dropped. Warnes was at the crease for an hour and four minutes and hit 10 fours. Gordon (22) ana Kilpatrick (21) were other good scorers, Spurdie, Lowe and Broad failing to break their ducks. Whiting and Dallison opened the batting fop Techmeal College who failed to equalise Wanganui’s first innings score. Whiting was the top scorer with 42 runs. Marist batted first against Collegiate and in a poor scoring innings reached only 70 runs. Carr and House, the two opening batsmen, were both dismissed with ducks and when the third wicket fell there were only IS runs on the telegraph. Harding (16) and Neale (11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Tidy and Currie were both responsible for two wickets. •Collegiate commenced its innings late in the afternoon but when stumps were drawn had scored only 68 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
