Townswomen’s Guild. The Townswomen’s Guild Decehiber meeting will take the form of a Christmas party, to be held next Wednesday, December 4. in the VV.D.F.U. rooms at 2.15 p.m. Mr. F. P. Taiboys, J.P., will give an address on “Citizenship.” League of Mothers. Members of the League of Mothers have arranged to hold a Christmas party on Tuesday, December 3, in the Victoria Hall, at 2.30 p.m., when the programme will include musical items and competitions. Gifts of small toys for the Mayor’s Relief Fund will be appreciated. Farewell Afternoon. Mrs. J. Allen, wife of the headmaster of the Collegiate School, who leaves for England shortly, was the guest of honour at a farewell party given yesterday afternoon by the wives of the house masters of the school. The hostesses were Mesdames IL AV. Austin, G. F. McGrath, McLean, J. E. Bannister, and H. G. Carver. Also present were a number of Mrs. Allen’s old friends. The Gardening Circle of the Lady Jellicoe Club, of which Mrs. C. C. Baldwin is convener, recently held a most succesful rose show, when there was an exceptionally good display of blooms, and a delightful decorative section called forth exclamations of admiration. Mrs. L. B. Barron won most of the honours in both sections, winning the points prize in each. Mrs, D, L. Blyth won first place in the collection of blue and yellow flowers. Dance at Kaitoke. Owing to numerous requests the Kaitoke Rifle Club has made arrangements to hold another of the popular joy night dances in the Kaitoke Hall on December 11, at 8.30 p.m. Patrons are assured of a jolly evening’s entertainment. Novelty dances will be featured on the programme, the music for wjlich will be plaved by the Gaiety Orchestra. A free bus* for city patrons leaves Martin and Vernon’s at 8.15 p.m. Whist Drive. The English Colonists’ Society held another successful weekly whist drive or. Wednesday night, in the Victoria Hall. It was very well attended. The prize winners were Mrs. Carr, Miss Jackson, and Mrs. Scott, Mr. H. Jackson. Mr. Norris and Mr. J. Jackson. I Members of the Surf and Tennis Clubs of Patea took Miss Diana • Roberts by surprise, gathering at her home on Thursday evening to bid’her farewell on her departure for the Capital City. After a gay time spent in dancing and community singing, punctuated with impromptu items, Mr. Currie, in presenting Miss Roberts with an alarm clock on behalf of the clubs, expressed the regrets of her friends at losing such a valuable supporter of ail sports. Mr. Taylor spoke on behalf of the Tennis Club, paying a tribute to the fine work done by Miss Roberts in assisting in every way to further the welfare of the club, and sport in particular. mentioning that there were always plenty of players but not always plenty of workers.
