Recent cabled advice from England indicated that members of the New Zealand Rugby football team, now on tour in the Home countries, were perturbed at having seen in certain New Zealand newspapers some criticisms of the manager of the team (Mr. V. R. Meredith;. The criticisms were characterised as ‘ ‘ unfair and unwarranted,’’ and it was pointed out that the manager’s path had not been an easy one owing to the extent of injuries to players. Although oue or two of the members of the team felt that they should have had more games, th-e players said (according to the report) thai Mr. Meredith ‘‘had given everyone a fair chance.” In a cablegram to the New Zealand Rugby Union the manager himself reported that the team was leaving an excellent impression everywhere and that everything was running smoothly. When in Scotland recently the feeling aroused over what was appearing in a section of the New Zealand newspapers led to action being taken. The matter was regarded in so serious a light that the captain and vice-captain on behalf of the members of the team, sent the following cablegram from , Aberdeen to the New Zealand Rugby Union;— “Exception taken by whole team invidious attacks and unfair Press criticism Meredith in whom team has every confidence.
