GOLF NOTES ANNUAL REPORT OF TAIHAPE > CLUB The following report was presented at the annual meeting of the Taihape Golf Club last evening by tne president (Dr. D. L. Sinclair;. “Your committee feels that in submitting to you. the annual report and balance-shoe:, theve is cause for satisfaction in the position disclosed. Throughout the season just completed golf clubs throughout New Zealand have suffered through tue wet weather of july and August. Apart from the loss of interest from interruptions caused by the closing of the ( links, there has been increased expenditure with loss of revenue. Subscriptions have decreased £3O from the previous season, partly owing to the departure of members from tne district. The painting of the club-house and the purchase ox a mower increased the item of repairs and replacements by £22. The amount paid out in wages increased by ; £l6, chiefly owing to extra work such as drainage, during the wet weather. The committee feels, however, that in spite of these handicaps the club has had a satisfactory year financially, and we are able to offer our mortgagor a substantial sum in reduction of the mortgage which falls due in February. The position of the club at the present time is a sound one. The general standard of play has improved during the year and the excellent spirit in which competitions have been played, has been responsible for many enjoyable days on the links, lour committee regrets that the Ladies' Golf Club was unable to get sufficient entries for a tournament this year, and would urge its members to make strenuous efforts to increase the membership and to stimulate interest. We are grateful to the ladies for their co-operation in the entertainment of visitors and in the social activities of the club. Inter - club matches, both home and away, have been most enjoyable and it isj hoped that they can be continued. The? condition of the greens has been a(

source of anxiety to your committee during the past season. The suggestion of, and enthusiasm for, summer golf in the spring of 1934 resulted in the usual fencing of the greens being omitted, and extremely dry weather in February and March prevented necessary work being carried out, with a resultant loss of vigorous growth on the greens. The work of forking and top-dressing and sowing the greens is now well in hand, and we can hope for better greens next year. In conclusion, your committee wishes to thank members for their co-operation during the past season and sincerely hopes that the 1936 season will be an enjoyable and successful one.” GENERAL NEWS The election results were displayed on a screen outside the Alajestic Theatre as they came to hand on Wednesday night. In addition a loud speaker was installed outside the theatre and electors were able to listen in to the radio broadcast from Wellington and follow the progress of the election. The public of Taihape were thus provided with a service that enabled them not only to hear the results,, over the radio, but also see them on the screen. The thanks of the electors is due to the Taihape Times and the management of the Majestic Theatre and Air. H. Bowater for providing such,, an excellent service. A big. crowd assembled outside the Majestic by 8 p.m. and followed the election results with very great interest. Air. Ormond Wilson, the newlyelected member for Rangitikei was cheered to the echo when he spoke from the balcony of the Alajestic at 12.30 a.m. Air.
