DUCHESS THEATRE
There was never a happier inspiration than that of Gaumont-British to produce “My Old Dutch,” which will b© screened at the IDuchess Theatre tonight. Covering 40 years, the story is a pageant of London working-class life, colourful, rich in Cockney humour, touched with pathos and often strongly dramatic. Its period has been chosen to include many stirring events which touched the lives of the people and, while the first inspiration of its theme was, as the title of the picture discloses, Albert Chevalier’s immortal song ,the story covers a tremendous canvas. Admirable in conception, skilfully directed and brilliantly acted, “My Old Dutch” deserves the fullest measure of popular success. It is wholesome, hearty entertainment of outstanding quality. In addition to Betty Balfour, Gordon Harker and Michael Hogan, a splendid cast includes Glennis Lorimer, Mickey Brantford, Peter Gawthorne. Fl-orrie Forde, Frank Pettingell, Finlay Currie, Robert Naiinby, Billy Shine, Douglas Jeffries and Felix Aylmer.
