Spell for Vintage. According to a Riccarton report, Vintage is to be sent home to have a spell until the autumn. His leg trc<ib?e has not come against him, but it was thought that there would be a risk of breaking him down it his preparation was proceeded with at this time of the year, and that a spell during the period of hard tracks might overcome his ailment.
Slippery's Two Races. Slippery ran two solid races at Levin, and may have been a shade unlucky in the main handicap, but he is not a good proposition at If miles, and he is now at difficult weights in shorter races. He was unable to repeat his performance of last year, when he also ran in the two open events and won the seven furlongs. It is recalled that he was not intended twelve months ago to be produced on the second occasion, and he had been given a bucket of water and was in the process of having his plates removed when his owner was prevailed upon to start him again to prevent a singledividend field. The win was a general surprise, reflected in his good dividend.
