MANAWATU ELECTORATE
Sir, — For the benefit of will Mr. Hunter, the Labour candidate, be good enough to answer the following questions? viz.: (1) Whether he is the Mr. Hunter, who when the Prince of Wales visited Wellington, did his best to promote a tramway strike, and was only prevented by the fact that some of the cooler heads in the 'Tramway Union had more influence? (2) Whether he is in full accord with Mr. Munro, M.P., Labour member for Dunedin North, who publicly stated “that Labour had its guns ready, and that in certain circumstances it would assume control of the Reserve Bank, and if the directors offered any opposition they might find themselves in prison on a diet of bread and water,” and much more in this strain as reported in the papers? (3) Whether the Labour Party is not hopelessly under the domination of their Trades Union Council, and that he as a “party” man must accept their ruling no matter how the question at stake affects this rural electorate, or what platform pledges he may have given? Mr. Hunter’s replies to the above questions will be awaited with interest.—I am sir, etc., “MAKOWHAI.” 23/11/35.
